So nice to meet you!

I’m Katherine. When I travel, I always find myself at some kind of waterfront bar, usually a dive. And beach bars never disappoint!

I invite you to join me as I try to define what makes a great beach bar, search for more great beach bars, and talk about all kinds of fun travel and credit card points and miles hacks.

My story: In 2021, after a full year of social distancing, I was starting to go stir crazy. I really needed to get out of the house. But I am married to my father. Well, not my actual father. But like my father, my husband, Tim, is the practical one, and he didn’t want to spend any money. How could I travel for (almost) free and stay safe from the Vid??

So I started searching for the Caribbean island with the best vaccination rate, and started thinking about how we would pay for it. 

This is when my credit card points and miles journey began. I figured I could open a few cards, get the signup bonuses, and go to Aruba! Problem solved! And it worked!! I used points for the flights and used the Capital One travel eraser to pay for our hotel. We had a fabulous week in the sun, practically free. Holy shit! I was hooked!

Why start this blog? Because I want to share my love of finding the rough in the diamond! (Yep, I said that right!) When we travel, anywhere, we love finding that divey, vibey place. We’ve found them in Aruba, in Ireland, in Oregon, and right here at home in Rochester, NY. 

So let’s do this! We’ll have some fun, share some new places to check out, use bad words, and not take ourselves too seriously. And I hope you’ll share your favorite beach bars with me!
