Beach Bar Hopping 101: Essential Tips for the Perfect Day

Any day beach bar hopping is a perfect day. If you’re prepared, that is! Below are some tips I’ve picked up over the years.

1. Be safe! If your planned route is far from where you’re staying, assign a designated driver or make sure ride sharing options are available. There may even be free public options available if you’re in a resort town! For instance, Charleston SC’s DASH trolley runs daily to the most popular tourist destinations. Just be sure to behave after a day at the pubs! No one likes an obnoxious passenger.

  2. Apply sunscreen. The best kind of beach bar offers both sunny and shady seating. You’ll be smart enough to stay in the shade at the first stop…probably not as smart at the third stop. If you start off the day lubed up, you’ll be one step ahead. Bonus points if you remember to reapply!

    Nobody like a sunburn!
  3. Water, water, water! DRINK WATER! My go-to plan is ordering a water between each beer or alcoholic beverage. It slows me down, making the day more enjoyable and the next morning less miserable!

  4. Eat something. When scheduling a beach bar hopping day, it’s easy to forget to plan time for food. Add a longer stop at a place that offers a menu with something everyone will enjoy, or map your walk past a joint where you can pick up something to munch on while you walk. BONUS: if you’re the kind of person who has snacks in their bag, I guarantee you’ll be the most popular person in the group when you whip out those granola bars for everyone after hour 4.

  5. Be flexible. You may get to beach bar 1 and decide that it’s perfect and never make it to any other stops. Or you may get to a stop that just doesn’t have the vibes and pass right on by. The whole idea of the day is to have fun…so go with the flow.

There are many things that can spoil the perfect day. But being prepared with the bar hopping essentials will make the day much more enjoyable!

Cheers,

Katherine
