Your intro to the Finger Lakes:

The New York State Finger Lakes region features 11 unique glacier-formed lakes surrounded by rolling hills, world class wineries and quaint villages. I may be a bit biased, having been raised in Rochester, just a short drive to one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Each lake is unique. Canadice, the smallest, is just 3 miles long. Along with Hemlock, the 2 lakes have no cottages or commercial real estate, as they provide fresh water for Rochester. Cayuga and Seneca are the largest of the Finger Lakes. Around Seneca Lake you’ll find more than 40 wineries and vineyards. Watkins Glen, located at the southern tip of the lake, is home to Watkins Glen International. It began as a road race in 1946 and has evolved into one of the best NASCAR Cup Series racetracks in the country. Canandaigua and Skaneateles Lakes are known for their beauty…and for exorbitant real estate prices. There’s currently an estate on Skaneateles listed for $21M!

We’ll be featuring 3 of the Finger Lakes in this beach bar series. Take a deep dive into one with a quick weekend trip, or spend the week in beautiful upstate New York meandering from lake to lake. Either way, you’re bound to find a great beach bar!

Waterfront Bars & Restaurants on Keuka Lake: Your Complete Guide to the Coolest Spots on the Crooked Lake

If you've never been to Keuka Lake, let me paint you a picture: this Y-shaped gem is tucked into the heart of New York's Finger Lakes wine country, surrounded by rolling vineyards, charming villages, and some genuinely spectacular sunsets. They call it "The Crooked Lake," and honestly? It lives up to the nickname in the best possible way.

Now, add to that picture a cold drink in your hand and your toes pointed toward the water, and you've got a perfect day. Whether you're pulling up by boat, cruising the Keuka Lake Wine Trail, or just escaping the everyday grind for a weekend, the waterfront dining scene here has something for everyone — from dive-y, dock-your-boat-and-order-wings vibes to a historic inn that's been welcoming guests since Abraham Lincoln was alive.

Let's go around the lake and hit some spots worth knowing about.

Penn Yan, NY — The North End

Outlet 111 — 111 Liberty St, Penn Yan, NY 14527

Penn Yan sits at the top of the Y, equidistant from both Rochester and Syracuse. It boasts a charming downtown, easy lake access, and some fantastic waterfront options.

Outlet 111 isn't on Keuka Lake proper - it's on the Keuka Lake Outlet, the historic waterway that connects Keuka to Seneca Lake. You’ll find the bar tucked under a bridge, located inside a very cool Prohibition-era building. The fabulous wine list is curated to feature local female wine producers. Catch Monday night BINGO or live music on Thursday evenings all summer long on the dog-friendly patio. While this stop isn't divey, it's a beautiful...and fun...place to while the evening away.

BONUS! Located in the same building, you'll find Lake Life Brewery. There's no water view, but worth a stop, if only to read the names given to the in-house brewed beer. A sour lager called Grumpy Old Man? A NEIPA named No I Pee A ing in the Lake? I mean, c'mon! That's awesome! (The beer is delicious, too!)

The East Side of the Lake — Route 54 / East Lake Road

The Switzerland Inn ("The Switz") — 14109 Keuka Village Rd, Hammondsport, NY 14840

Established in 1894, The Switzerland Inn has been doing the waterfront bar thing longer than anyone else on this list and quite honestly, longer than most bars in New York State. Featuring two massive decks, there is no better place to be when the sun begins to set. The all-you-can-eat crab legs special on Wednesdays and prime rib special on Fridays and Saturdays will keep you full, the live music will keep you dancing, and the drinks will keep you happy! The Switz is the kind of place where neighbors hang out and vacationers feel like locals. Just what the doctor ordered.

The West Side of the Lake — Route 54A / West Lake Road

Lakeside Louie’s — 13780 West Lake Rd, Hammondsport, NY 14840

Formerly The Lakeside, Lakeside Louie’s re-opened in June 2026 with massive renovations to the lower bar and docks. Originally opened in 1936 as a restaurant and an amusement park, there have been many iterations over the last century, to be sure. If history is any indication of the future, this will be the place to be on Keuka Lake this summer and for many years to come! Look for vacationers, locals, and weekenders rubbing elbows in the sunshine, listening to live music, and having a beer to celebrate the return of warm weather.

Honorable Mention - not Beach Bars, but cool places to stop none the less.

Village Tavern Restaurant & Inn - one of my favorite places in all of the Finger Lakes

Living Roots Tasting Room - just wait until you see the view of Keuka from here!

Main Deck - good food, great view. Nothing else to say.

A Note on Planning Your Trip

Some of these spots are seasonal, typically open from Memorial Day through October, so call ahead or check their websites before you make the drive — especially if you're visiting in the shoulder seasons. Keuka is well worth a trip in the fall when the vineyards are turning and the crowds have thinned out, but hours can vary significantly.

One more thing: boat parking is a real thing here, and most of these spots have slips or docking available. If you're lucky enough to be on the lake, planning your day around a floating bar crawl is a great idea!

Cheers!

Katherine
